The Wi-Fi 6 standard has appeared not so long ago and the range of manufacturers is still being updated. In the TP-Link Archer line, models appear that support the new communication standard, and at the same time change their appearance. Such devices should not only provide higher speeds, but also increase the coverage area, and supported gadgets should spend less energy on communication. Today we will look at the capabilities of the "middle" model TP-Link Archer AX50 with support for AX3000.
The appearance and capabilities of routers change from time to time, but the filling of the boxes remains the same. The Archer AX50 comes with a power supply, a small Ethernet cable, and a few pieces of paper. No wall mounts or vertical stands are provided.
To configure, you can use either a smartphone, or, more habitually, do everything through a browser. In any of these cases, the router will offer a simplified option for entering basic settings and creating home networks. But there is nothing fundament Tp-link LAN/WAN + 3G USB Wifi Router ally new in this process.
Immediately upon unpacking, the slightly changed shape of the case is striking. Familiar routers were not as stretched as happened with the new TP-Link Archers, including the AX50. The dimensions of such a device are 260.2 × 135 × 38.6 mm. Yes, it will most likely take up a little more space than the old router, which can be critical in small furniture niches, but in other cases it is unlikely to be very noticeable within a couple of minutes after installation.
As is the case with the manufacturer, there is quite a lot of gloss on the case. These are large inserts on the top cover and thin stripes on the antennas. Such a surface of the case not only collects dust, but also will certainly get noticeable abrasions after the next cleaning. But yes, the router looks good and its appearance still hints that it is more powerful than the previous solution. There are also many ventilation slots on the top and bottom of the case.
The usual diodes on the front side are engaged in the indication of work. There are only six of them, they should not interfere too much, but if they do, they can be turned off (permanently or according to the schedule). From the physical control and ports on the back there are: a power connector and a power button, one WAN and four LAN ports, USB-A (3.0), as well as buttons for activating WPS, reset and on / off indicators. The last key is rarely found directly on the router.
Archer AX50 is installed horizontally on a table / cabinet / etc., Or it can be hung on the wall, for which there are separate mounts below. But what is not there is rubber bands on the legs, and if, say, the cat slightly pulls the sloppy hanging wire, it will not be difficult for him to drag the device along with him. This is also a point to pay attention to when installing in some places where something often happens.
The rest of the router looks good and there are no global comments to it. In addition, taking into account the emergence of a new communication standard, in this case, its capabilities are much more interesting, and not appearance, to which not all users, in principle, pay attention.
So, Archer AX50 is one of the first routers of the company with support for Wi-Fi 6. Of the client devices, I do not yet have so many gadgets working with networks of this generation, but this does not mean that existing smartphones, laptops and other equipment will not communicate with it. just won't be able to use its full potential. At the same time, the router is still not the most modest in the line.
The model that got into the edition supports the AX3000 standard, which is equal to 2402 Mbps in the 5 GHz band, and 574 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band. For those users who do not want to deal with the ranges for individual devices, there is a Smart Connect function, with the help of which only one network will be displayed, and the router itself will deal with the distribution of devices by ranges. To cover large rooms, four external antennas are used, and for a large number of user devices (up to 256) there is support for MU-MIMO, OFDMA and Beamforming technologies.
Of course, there are also guest networks, in which you can allow or deny devices access to each other, as well as to the main local network.
The USB port can be used for storage devices. In this case, you can not only make a network drive, but also set up the Time Machine backup function for Apple computers.
